I can’t believe the resistance against this. I mean come on its just a Mosque that also happens to be a center for culture and diversity which is also TWO BLOCKS AWAY!!!
Yeah, the people who attacked us that day were Muslims (who just happened to believe an a extreme corrupted version on the religion). But there were Muslims who died in that attack, and as we speak there are Muslims serving in our armed forces DEFENDING OUR COUNTRY.
All this protesting is just for Americans to vent their hate against people who follow Islam. Its not like the people who will run the Mosque will persuade people to honor those murderous terrorists and praise their despicable acts.
Besides there are hundreds of Mosques across this nation, but you don’t see people complaining and protesting about that.
Now I know some of you will point out that many of these Muslim dominated countries won’t allow a church in their country, why a Mosque in lower Manhattan. I say that we allow that due to the simple fact that WE ARE AMERICANS and we support our right to freedom of worship.
Please lets not deny these decent Americans rights too. Let them build the mosque and stop making a big deal out of this, we have other things to worry about like the state of our economy and the wars we are fighting overseas.

WHAT do you need to convince you of the reprehensible nature of this “cultural center” ?
This is the United States of America, not some muslim country. If they want to build a place were they can practic there religion put it some were else. not at ground zero. It seems that some people in this country have lost there way and what we stand for and that is being united
Think of this. During WW2, Hitler and his Nazi’s murdered so many millions of Jewish people (and substantially smaller numbers of some other groups.) Probably the most well known concentration camp was Oswiecim, aka Auschwitz. These camps were not run by Roman Catholics. The killings were not done in the name of any Roman Catholic belief, not in the name of Jesus, not in the name of Mary, not in the name of the Holy Sprit, not in the name of any Saint. You follow that, right?
Perhaps SOME Nazi’s happened to be Roman Catholic, I really don’t know; if they were they did not kill Jewish people in the name of the Roman Catholic Church in any way, manner, shape or form.
Back some years ago, a group of Roman Catholic nuns wanted to build a convent near Oswiecim (Auschwitz) and they were promptly criticized because the former concentration camp and that area were unofficially a kind of sacred ground of the Jewish people. Ancesters of many Jewish people around the world are “buried” there, i.e, essentially cremated. THe world overwhelmingly was opposed to the location of the convent.
For the same reason AND MORE, a mosque must not be built anywhere near the site. An extremist sect of Islam bombed this site and did this in the name of their religion and you say that a mosque is fine? But the Roman Catholic nuns never murdered the Jewish people but it was wrong for them to build a convent near the concentration camp.
So two wrongs DO make a right Maryann?
As for us losing our way…the ones who have lost sight of what this country is all about are the ones who use the term “They” with venom from their tongue. Our country is about freedom and that means having to deal with things you may not like for that freedom.
To sacrifice freedom for security due to your irrational fears means you deserve neither as Ben Franklin once said.
As for mosques being built on conquered sites way back when…we used to segregate based on pigmentation in this country less then 50 years ago. We used to have duels to settle disputes and we gave Natives blankets with smallpox…the past is the past
Don’t blame Muslims for the acts of a few crazies. Most of us don’t think all Catholics are pedophiles (I hope).
The government must not treat the mosque differently than any other religious building. That is what this country is about. That is what we need to protect.
We must not cave to rule of the irrational mob.
