Friday night we went out to dinner and lazy America reared her ugly head.  While sitting near the entrance -- I watched with disbelief as waitresses walked up to the people trying to get in and said “kitchens closed”.  Its about 8:59pm on a Friday night and the owner was on site at the bar chumming it up with some customers.  I watched with more disbelief as it happened again at 9:05pm.  I’ve waited tables and I know how eager everyone is to put stuff away and go home.  But anytime anyone wants to spend money with you -- you make the damn effort.  This establishment (on the way through Averill Park) turned away 6 covers -- 12 drinks, 6 appetizers, 6 dinners, 6 coffees -- $150 minimum for restaurant -- $30 in waitresses pocket.  By the way, the place was still hopping… there were people in the kitchen that could have cooked up “something” while they were closing up.  If business is down…it’s time to take a good hard look at why.
